Stimulate your nature, strengthen your roots
The Winemaking Approach : Vitiforestry
As pioneers of this approach, we have made a series of strategic choices that are now bearing fruit.
Every 15 vineyard rows, we introduce hedgerows composed of tall trees (heirloom fruit trees, elderberry, service tree…), large berry-producing shrubs (juniper, juneberry…), and smaller aromatic plants such as rosemary, lavender, and rockrose.
These plant species are exclusively Mediterranean, naturally adapted to the local soil and climate.
On one hand, these winding hedgerows serve as reservoirs of biodiversity, providing habitat for birds, insects, and bats. On the other hand, they create a microclimate that offers shade to the vines while acting as a natural windbreak.
Finally, they contribute to soil health by improving water infiltration and reducing compaction through the deep-reaching auxiliary roots of the plants.
the fruit of our commitments
In 2024, our estate was awarded the Gold Medal in the “La Biodiversité c’est mon domaine !” Challenge, organized by SudVinBio and Vitisbio in partnership with the LPO(League for the Protection of Birds) and the Chamber of Agriculture.
This competition aimed to highlight winemakers committed to sustainable and environmentally responsible practices, recognizing those who actively contribute to preserving and enhancing biodiversity.
SUPPORTING THE FUTURE
Agronomic experts work alongside our estate to assess the impact of our regenerative viticulture. In 2023, we joined the LiFE program, collaborating with the Conservatory of Natural Areas to conduct an inventory of local wildlife and plant species.
The initial results are both significant and promising, revealing the presence of species classified as “vulnerable”, such as the Diane butterfly (Zerynthia polyxena) and the Rollier d’Europe, a bird that relies on a diverse habitat mosaic for its survival.
Discover the Species That Enrich Our Hedgerows
We collaborate with various research organizations, including Agroof and the Chamber of Agriculture of Hérault, to carefully design our hedgerows. These experts assist us in selecting plant species, sourcing from the best nurseries, and ensuring optimal planting methods.
Today, hundreds of different species line our hedgerows, playing a vital role in shaping our landscape and enhancing biodiversity.
